What was the most challenging part?
The most challenging part was figuring out what to make and how to create the right shapes I needed.
Why did you choose to do the imagery you did?
I chose to do a flower because they bring me happiness when I look at them. Spring is one of my favorite seasons because of the flowers blooming and the vibrant colors they bring, this is why I chose a flower.

How would you describe it to someone who couldn’t see it?
My piece is a black mask with triangular cardboard cuttings colored with red, orange, and yellow. The red pieces on the outside of the mask stick out like scales on a dragon and has an abstract pattern.
Is the piece cohesive? Does it go together? Is it well balanced visually?
My piece is cohesive because of the colors I used and the pattern I chose to go with. The colors red, orange, and yellow go together really well and the black of the mask give the piece contrast. Also, since the pattern was mirrored on both sides of the mask it makes it look balanced.
What is the overall mood or feeling from your piece?
The overall mood of my piece is dark because of the strong use of black and the rough edges caused by my use of triangular shapes.
Do you feel your piece was successful? Why or why not?
My piece was not successful because the piece does not look presentable on the face. I would consider the look to be unfinished when looking at the piece straight on. But, the sides of the piece are what I am most proud of and what I would show if I needed to.

About Me Still Life
What items are included in your still life?
The items included in my still life are a polaroid camera, a jordan shoe, and a paint cup.
How does the viewer’s eye move around the piece?
I like to think the viewer would first look at the camera, then the shoe, around to the cup in the background.
What does each item represent? What medium did you pick and why?
I chose to use graphite because it would be easy to blend and show the shadows in my picture. The camera represents my interest in photography as well as looking at photos and the paint cup represents my love for art and painting that I do from time to time. Lastly, I chose a jordan shoe to represent my childhood, jordans have always been something that I've had since I was a kid and have stuck with me til now.
Do you feel like your drawing is a good representation of who you are?
Yes, my drawing is a good representation of who I am because it has things that represent the past as well as the present. All three items represent my interests and things I like.

Describe the image you drew. How would you describe it on the phone?
My picture is a self-portrait of me laying down while my eyes are closed with one of my arms up. It is black and gray with some color where the sunlight is hitting my face and tie-dye shirt.
What principles and elements of design are used in this piece and how?
The first thing you notice in my piece is the use of color and how the colors of the tie-dye shirt brighten the piece up. The next thing is the lines that I created with my arm as well as my neck, face and fingers, they added more fluidity and movement in my piece. Finally the spaces between my face and arms balance out my piece and create interesting shapes making it interesting to look at.
How would you classify your style in this piece? How did you show meaning in your piece and your voice as an artist?
My style in this piece was more impactful because of the highlighting of certain areas in color as well as the position I was in. The black and grey gave the piece a darker element and made the focus more visible. The main point of my piece was to show the impact of quarantine and the want to go outside in the sunlight to do all the things we used to do before.
What do you find successful about your piece? What might you change if you were to do it again?
I find my piece successful and unique because of the black and gray, color element and the position that I'm in. If I were to change anything I would've change how I prioritized my time in terms of giving some areas more attention.

Printmaking
Describe your piece as if you were on the phone with someone. Explain what it is.
My piece is a collection of crystals with some in the foreground, background, and on the ceiling. There is also texture on the wall and floor to show that it’s a cave.
How did you use line and contrast in your piece?
I overlapped the yellow and purple ink to show contrast. I added texture on the wall and floor to show line.
Why do you feel the subject and what you made represents the theme? Does the printmaking process help show this?
My subject represents the theme because I chose a crystal cave which usually has collections of crystals and multiple are shown in my piece.
How do you feel about your piece? Do you feel your piece is successful? Why or why not?
I like my piece and I think it was successful. The contrast and definition I created with yellow purple is my favorite thing about my piece and the texture I got in the background fills the blank spaces well.

NCMA Inspired Painting
Things I see in my artwork are a man wrapped in a cloth looking at a waterfall while hanging from vines. He is looking to his left at the waterfall which has rocks on the right and greenery on the left sides of it. The color scheme is gray for the rocks, white for the clouds and cloth, blue for the sky and waterfall, and green for the vines and greenery. As for the man himself he is a peachy skin tone with pinkish-brownish hair. I used value in my waterfall and rocks, texture in my greenery and rocks, and movement in the man's hair and cloth. For the feeling of my artwork, it portrays a sense of strength and pride because the man's presence seems to be strong and demanding while looking over the environment. If we were to make a story of the artwork it would be that he is scouting or admiring the scene in front of him. My artwork was mostly successful because of the texture and movement I achieved as well as the solid colors I have. I could've done better with the blending in the waterfall, the man's body, and the movement of the cloth but other than that I'd say that my artwork was successful.
Landscape Painting
My painting is of a hanging rock with two trees and a shrub. The setting is on a mountain with clouds and water as well as a large rock with three rocks stacked on top.
The oil painting process was a different experience in terms of drying and layering certain areas at a time but it does create an overall good painting. The thing I struggled with was the messiness of the paint as well as mixing and blending the wrong colors while painting.
The painting doesn't have any particular meaning to me but it does have a vast feel to it and a sense of peace and calmness. This piece can also give the feeling of solitude as well.
